Pearland Restaurant Weeks Is Back for Its Fifth Year. Pearland's Newest Restaurants Aren't on the List.

"We get a second chance to make a first impression, and that's rare in this business," Ronnie Killen said when Killen's Steakhouse reopened on Sept. 10 after a three-month, $1 million renovation at 6425 W. Broadway St. Three weeks later, Pearland Restaurant Weeks opened its fifth year. Killen's is not among the menus Visit Pearland has posted for it.

That gap shows how eating out in Pearland works this October. Restaurant Weeks highlights restaurants the city already knows. The rooms that opened or reopened in August and September are bringing in their first customers on their own schedules. Of the six late-summer openings and reopenings covered by local news, none appear in the official menu lineup. If you want to try both, you need two lists for one month.

What the official list rewards

Pearland Restaurant Weeks runs Oct. 1 through 31, and every participating menu falls into one of three price tiers.

Meal Price What you get Donation to Pearland Neighborhood Center
Breakfast $20 Two courses or a meal bundle $2
Lunch $25 Two courses or a meal bundle $3
Dinner $39 Three courses or a meal bundle $5

Visit Pearland says the event has raised more than $16,000 for Pearland Neighborhood Center since it began in 2022. At the $5 dinner rate, that equals about 3,200 dinner orders spread across four previous Octobers. The money adds up one plate at a time.

The posted lineup leans on familiar names, and most of them offer only one or two of the three tiers:

  • Breakfast at $20: Cocina Morales pairs an egg combo such as huevos divorciados or rancheros with an appetizer or dessert, including tres leches or cajeta pancakes. Yellow Apron Baking Co. bundles a breakfast sandwich, seasoned potatoes, a yogurt bowl and coffee or tea.
  • Lunch only: Four Friends Tea Room offers its classic tea-room lunch with dessert, cold tea and a mini pumpkin loaf for $25.
  • Dinner only at $39: Grazia Italian Kitchen serves a lasagna eggroll, its Mike & Jen chicken-and-bowtie pasta and a chocolate-chip cannoli. Hoppe's Grill & Bar puts a 16-ounce ribeye with six shrimp and a side ahead of cheesecake or chocolate cake. Boiling Dragon, Moreno's Mexican Restaurant and Thai Cottage also post dinner-only menus.
  • Lunch and dinner: Bayou Grill, Big Horn BBQ, Central Texas Barbecue, Doglegs Golf Lounge, El Pollo Loco, Iguanas Ranas, Magnolia Cajun Comfort, Mikki's Soul Food Cafe and Remton post both tiers. Magnolia Cajun Comfort closes its $39 dinner with beignets. Mikki's dinner choices include catfish, sirloin tips and chicken-and-shrimp Alfredo.

The roster changed in the weeks before launch. Previews from Houston Food Finder and Community Impact listed Barcenas Mexican Grill and Good Vibes Coastal Kitchen. Neither appears among the menus now on the Visit Pearland page, while Magnolia Cajun Comfort and Remton were added. The official page is the list to trust, and if a restaurant isn't listed, call ahead before assuming it is or isn't taking part.

The passport closes a day early

Diners collect check-ins through the new Visit Pearland app. Checking in at five or more participating restaurants enters you in a drawing for gift cards and Visit Pearland swag. The check-in window runs Oct. 1 through 30, so it ends one day before the menus do. A Halloween dinner on Oct. 31 still sends $5 to the Neighborhood Center, but it won't count toward the drawing.

Five check-ins in a month works out to about one a week. Most of the posted menus are dinner-only or lunch-and-dinner, so most of those visits will be evening meals unless two of them are breakfasts at Cocina Morales and Yellow Apron.

The openings that are running on their own schedule

None of the late-summer openings below appear among the posted Restaurant Weeks menus. Several opened only weeks before the event started.

Opened Restaurant Address What it serves
Aug. 8 Aliberto's Jr. 1810 Pearland Parkway California-style Mexican
Aug. 18 The Empanada Bar 1330 Broadway St. Latin American
August Frenchy's Chicken 1909 N. Main St., Ste. 115 Chicken
Sept. 1 Luce Avenue Coffee Roasters 10555 Pearland Parkway, Ste. A102 Coffee
Sept. 9 Ruchi's Indian Cuisine 3422 Business Center Drive, Ste. 130 Indian, with more than 85 dishes
Sept. 10 Killen's Steakhouse, reopened 6425 W. Broadway St. Steakhouse

Community Impact lists Luce Avenue's mailing city as Houston, though it reports the shop in its Pearland coverage. Spread out, the six cover a lot of ground, from Business Center Drive to Old Town Broadway, with Pearland Parkway, North Main and the west end of Broadway in between.

Killen's is the clearest case

The steakhouse that reopened in September is a different restaurant from the one that closed in June. According to the restaurant's Sept. 10 news release, the kitchen added a handcrafted live-fire Mibrasa hearth from Spain's Costa Brava region and an 1,800-degree infrared broiler. The dining room got Zalto stemware matched to each wine, Villeroy & Boch plates, Mauviel copper service pieces and sound dampening meant to keep conversation easy.

The menu now centers on dishes such as Cointreau soufflés, a jumbo lump crab cake with lemon butter, Killen's cream corn based on his grandmother's recipe, carrot cake and crème brûlée bread pudding. A few dishes from the original 2006 menu are back too.

A fine-dining tasting menu is still on the way. The restaurant has said it will debut later this fall but hasn't named a date. So Pearland's best-known kitchen is going through its own relaunch during the same weeks the city's prix-fixe event runs, and it's doing so separately from that event.

Saturday, Oct. 17 covers both ends of the day

The best day of the month to fit food into the calendar is a Saturday that starts early and ends after dark.

Morning. Fall For It: Market + Movie takes over Independence Park at 3449 Pearland Parkway from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It's free, with free parking, and doubles as the Old Pearland Farmers Market's fifth anniversary. Vendors open at 9 a.m. alongside an H-E-B Kids Zone, face painting, a fall craft and trick-or-treating at participating booths. The Whataburger Zone has a photo stop with Buzz, Andy and Jessie at 10 a.m., and Toy Story 5 plays on the lawn at 11 a.m. You can bring lawn chairs, blankets, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Glass isn't allowed, and leashed pets in costume are welcome.

Evening. Hops and History starts at Vallensons' Brewing Company, with tours at 7 and 8 p.m. A guide in character leads a walk to Old Settler's Cemetery, where actors portray early Pearland residents, and the tour ends with a drink back at the brewery. It's presented by Commissioner Stacy Adams' office, the Forever Parks Foundation of Pearland, Vallensons' and Visit Pearland. A second date runs Friday, Oct. 23, at the same times.

That leaves the middle of the day open for a $25 Restaurant Weeks lunch, or for a first visit to one of the new places between the movie and the tour.

The rest of October, in order

  1. Thursday, Oct. 29: Pearland Jazz at the Hilton Garden Inn features the David Caceres Band. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7:30. Greg Petito Band follows on Nov. 19.
  2. Friday, Oct. 30: Pearland Boutique Shop and Hop runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is also the last day for passport check-ins.
  3. Saturday, Oct. 31: Shop and Hop continues from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Restaurant Weeks menus are served for the last time.

The city's parks calendar then moves into November and December: Outdoors for All at Independence Park on Nov. 7, Hometown Christmas there on Dec. 4, the parade down Broadway from Old Alvin Road to Pearland Parkway on Dec. 5, and Tour De Lites on Dec. 12.

What's being built on Broadway next

More openings are on the way. A second Pearland Dunkin' is planned at 11630 W. Broadway St. A state filing projected construction from Sept. 7 through December, but no opening date has been announced. On the east side, La Michoacana Meat Market is planned for 3218 E. Broadway St., with construction expected to start this month and finish in early 2027.
